Respite Support

Adaptive Nursing can offer In-Home Respite Care to provide support for your loved one; to provide carer reprieve from your caring role. Alternatively, we can take your loved one, out on a social outing to give you a break to enjoy your own leisure time at home.

Studies have shown if the stress of a caregiver burden, defined as the strain or load experienced by a person who cares for an elderly, chronically ill, or disabled family member or other person, is left unchecked, and stress becomes unrelenting, it can take a toll on health, relationships and state of mind, eventually leading to burnout.

Studies have also shown that the availability of respite care is a critical factor in carer support, to sustain home life, enhance the caregiver’s role, prevent burnout and avoid the institutionalisation of their dependent (Rx for care givers: respite care MG Zelewsky, EP Deitrick - Journal of community health nursing, 1987 - Taylor & Francis).

Be Empowered – Seek Respite

Although taking care of a loved one can be a privilege and give you great personal joy, it can also be overwhelming and a burden at times.

Caring for a family member can bring you closer together, but unless you manage it carefully, you can burn out both physically and emotionally.  Be your own superhero and have regular respite, either for a few hours each week or to go on a holiday.

In-Home Respite Vs Social Respite.

It’s important you have time to yourself for your own emotional and physical wellbeing. This isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity to avoid burnout. As a caregiver, it is just as important that you take care of yourself as well as the person you are caring for.

Adaptive Nursing can offer you:

  • In-home respite for a chance to de-stress, restore your physical and mental energy, and keep your life in balance - see Schedule of Fees

  • Out-of-home respite by taking your loved one out on an accompanied social outing or activity

  • Assistance to find a respite care facility for services that involve days and/or nights away from the caregiving role

  • Support to find a social group tailored towards providing respite care in a group setting.

  • Develop a care plan for you as the caregiver.

Don’t wait until you feel too exhausted to continue and the burden of care becomes too much to carry, or until you experience a health crisis, to look for a solution.
